About

The UMass Rocket Team designs, builds, and launchs a high-powered rocket bearing various data-collecting payloads. The team is participating in the International Rocketry Engineering Competition (IREC) for the 2025-2026 year. Previously, The team participated in the NASA USLI competition from 2015-2024.

Subteams

Payload

The Payload team works on the annual challenge released by NASA. Last year, the mission was to transmit landing data via RF.

Recovery 

The Recovery team works on the design/manufacture/assembly of avionics (AV) bay & electronics.

Structures

The Structures subteam designs and constructs the rocket.

Outreach

An important goal of the project is to stimulate interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields by engaging local schools with interactive and educational activities.
